Mr Carl Muthu

Carl Muthu

Carl was born and raised in Hamilton, New Zealand. He went to Auckland Medical School where he graduated first in his class in 1999. He completed his surgical training in New Zealand including rotations at Auckland City Hospital, Middlemore Hospital, North Shore Hospital, Whangarei Hospital, Christchurch Hospital and Waikato Hospital. During his surgical training he received the Gordon Gordon Taylor Medical for the top Australasian candidate in the Part 1 Surgical Examinations in February 2002 and achieved a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU Vascular) from the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine. He obtained his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Vascular Surgery in 2008. He then supplemented his surgical training with a two year fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the USA.

Carl was appointed as a Consultant Vascular and Transplant Surgeon at Auckland City Hospital in 2010. He provides the full range of vascular surgery procedures including:

Carl is vocationally registered with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Vascular Surgeon. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a member of the New Zealand Vascular Society, the Australia and New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgeons, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine. Carl has published a number of papers as well as given many scientific presentations. His current research interests include carotid disease and surgical aspects of kidney transplantation.
